Where are our kids getting their cigs?
Fag houses will sell illegal tobacco to anyone.
Fag houses aren't fussy about who they sell cigarettes to. In
fact, 1 in 7 young smokers between 14-15 buys illegal cigarettes
from private addresses. When our kids go to buy cigarettes from
illegal tobacco dealers they could be getting involved with
criminals who are linked with drugs and organised crime.
How illegal traders help kids get hold of cigarettes.
- Illegal tobacco is usually sold for about half the price of
legal cigarettes, making smoking far more affordable for
children.
- As it gets harder for under-18s to buy cigarettes and tobacco
from genuine traders, other sources such as street sellers and fag
houses are providing kids with an alternative option.
- Traders will often sell cigarettes in 'singles' (one cigarette
at a time), making it even easier for kids to afford them.
- Dealers encourage young and vulnerable people to visit fag
houses, putting them in risky situations.
